Meet Rod
Hello! I’m Rod, owner, lawyer, and accredited mediator at East City Legal.
I was born and raised in Peterborough, and after living in London, Nanaimo, Toronto, and Barrie, I returned home with my wife and two daughters. I love living and working in this community.
What I enjoy most about family law is that I get the opportunity to help clients when they need it most. No two clients’ life situations are the same. I feel privileged to work with my clients and other lawyers to craft tailored resolutions that address each client’s unique family needs. My goal is always to do this in a way that seeks to reduce the conflict rather than add to it.
My approach to family law is collaboration whenever possible, and I believe that this is always possible. I am trained in both Collaborative Practice and mediation. My legal approach is to start from a place of determining what matters most to my clients by identifying their core interests, concerns, goals, and worries. Only after I fully understand what matters most to my clients can we generate options to resolve their family law concerns.
Having a truly collaborative mindset means I start from a position that all matters are appropriate to be resolved out-of-court. With the right professionals involved, even the most difficult and conflictual cases can be resolved without ever setting foot in a courtroom.
However, I also understand that there are instances when court becomes a reality for many people, whether or not they want it to be. I assist clients through the court process in a respectful and compassionate way.
When I am not spending time with my wife and two children, I love exploring the many underused roads of Peterborough County on my new gravel bike.
